    CIA BOOK OF DIRTY TRICKS

Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence domestic and foreign media beginning in the 1950s.

The activities, extent and even the existence of the CIA project remain in dispute: the operation was first called Mockingbird in Deborah Davis' 1979 book, Katharine the Great: Katharine Graham and her Washington Post Empire. Davis' book, detailing how the media had been recruited and infiltrated by the CIA for propaganda purposes, was controversial and not always accurate.More evidence of Mockingbird's existence emerged in the 2007 memoir American Spy: My Secret History in the CIA, Watergate and Beyond, by convicted Watergate "plumber" E. Howard Hunt and The Mighty Wurlitzer: How the CIA Played America by Hugh Wilford (2008).

    What is TOEFL?

TOEFL TEST, TOEFL EXAM 2011, SCORE, GUIDE, DATES, PREPARATION
    Details

Welcome to TOEFL 2011 Test, Exam section. In this section you will find What is TOEFL?, TOEFL Exam 2011, TOEFL tests, syllabus, exam date, test score, prep, preparation, questions, pattern, sample question papers, practice test, results, notification, guide and articles on TOEFL exam.

    What is TOEFL?

The TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures your ability to use and understand the English language as it’s read, written, heard and spoken in the university classroom.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.

As the most accepted English-language test in the world, more than 7,000 universities, agencies, and other institutions in more than 130 countries accept the TOEFL test as part of their admissions criteria — including nearly every college and university in Australia and the UK. TOEFL test measures your ability to integrate the four English skills you need in an academic setting, making it the most comprehensive academic English test available.

The test, often referred to as the TOEFL iBT™ test, is administered at more than 4,500 test sites around the world. A paper-based version of the test is available in areas where TOEFL iBT testing is not possible.

In order for the TOEFL iBT to measure how well you read, listen, speak and write in English, and how well you use these skills together, you’ll be asked to integrate these skills for the test. For example, you may read a passage or listen to a lecture, and then write or speak about what you learned.

The TOEFL test is offered in more locations around the world than any other English-language test, making it easier for you to find a convenient location.

For instance, the TOEFL iBT™ is given on predetermined dates, 30-40 times a year, at thousands of secure, Internet-based test sites around the globe.

The TOEFL Paper-based Test (or TOEFL PBT) is offered in areas where the TOEFL iBT is not available, and is given 6 times a year. You can register online or by mail.

The TOEFL test measures your ability to integrate the four English skills you need in an academic setting, making it the most comprehensive academic English test available.

     Internet-based Test

The TOEFL® Internet-based test emphasizes integrated skills and measures all four language skills, including speaking. The content on the test is authentic, and the language is consistent with that used in everyday, real academic settings.

    The test has four sections

    1.    Reading measures the ability to understand academic reading matter.
    2.    Listening measures the ability to understand English as it is used in colleges and universities.
    3.    Speaking measures the ability to speak English.
    4.    Writing measures the ability to write in a way that is appropriate for college and university course work.

Test content is based on a “corpus,” or database, of spoken and written language that currently contains more than 2.7 million words, collected from educational institutions throughout the United States. The spoken language in the database was collected from
    •    Lectures and Interactive Classes
    •    Labs
    •    Office Hours
    •    Study Groups
    •    Everyday Service Interactions (for example, at the bookstore or registrar's office)

The written language was collected from sources, such as textbooks and course materials. Listening and reading texts in the test conform to the characteristics of the language in the database.

    Paper-based Test

The paper-based TOEFL test has three sections plus a 30-minute writing test (the Test of Written English) that is required of everyone who takes the paper-based test.
    •    Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
    •    Structure and Language measures the ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
    •    Reading Comprehension measures the ability to understand non-technical reading matter
There is no scheduled break during the paper-based test.

    Eligibility:

Anybody can appear for the TOEFL, as there are no restrictions on applicant age or qualifications. The validity period of TOEFL Scores is two years.

    Registration:

Registering online is the easiest method, giving you access to over 4,500 test sites in over 165 countries. You can also register by mail or by phone. Registration is available 3-4 months before the test date.

    Silmarillion - J.R.R. Tolkien

The Silmarillion is a collection of J. R. R. Tolkien's mythopoeic works, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien in 1977, with assistance from Guy Gavriel Kay,[1] who later became a noted fantasy writer. The Silmarillion, along with J. R. R. Tolkien's other works, forms a comprehensive, yet incomplete, narrative that describes the universe of Middle-earth within which The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place.

After the success of The Hobbit, and prior to the publication of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien's publisher requested a sequel to The Hobbit, and Tolkien sent them an early draft of The Silmarillion. But through a misunderstanding, the publisher rejected the draft without fully reading it, with the result that Tolkien began work on "A Long Expected Party", the first chapter of what he described at the time as "a new story about Hobbits", which became The Lord of the Rings.

The Silmarillion comprises five parts. The first part, Ainulindalë, tells of the creation of Eä, the "world that is". Valaquenta, the second part, gives a description of the Valar and Maiar, the supernatural powers in Eä. The next section, Quenta Silmarillion, which forms the bulk of the collection, chronicles the history of the events before and during the First Age, including the wars over the Silmarils which gave the book its title. The fourth part, Akallabêth, relates the history of the Downfall of Númenor and its people, which takes place in the Second Age. The final part, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age, is a brief account of the circumstances which led to and were presented in The Lord of the Rings.

The five parts were initially separate works, but it was the elder Tolkien's express wish that they be published together. Because J. R. R. Tolkien died before he finished revising the various legends, Christopher gathered material from his father's older writings to fill out the book. In a few cases, this meant that he had to devise completely new material in order to resolve gaps and inconsistencies in the narrative.

    The Stock Market for Dummies

The stock market is a place where stocks, bonds, or other securities are bought and sold. When you buy stocks or shares in a company you gain part ownership in that company. In today’s world people buy stocks in order to gain dividends on money that they have invested. Some advantages of buying stocks over bank deposits; money-market funds or bonds are that stocks have a long historical track. Although the disadvantages of buying stocks are that the market fluctuates very often and the stocks are never guaranteed so you may loose all of the money you have invested.
Before deciding on what type of stock you are going to purchase, you must determine what type of investor you are. There are two types of investors: technicians and fundamentalists. Technicians are investors that tend to buy and sell stocks very quickly. These investors are not interested in book values, dividends or earning although they study the price patterns of that certain stock. Fundamentalists are investors that look for long-term growth in a company. They consider such factors as earning, dividends and book values and are as interested in the price patterns because they are in for long term growth so they know that the market will fluctuate.
When you are buying stocks there are three different types that you may choose from: penny stocks, growth stocks and blue chip stocks.
Penny stocks are stocks from a company that has almost no chance of developing into a big company and the stocks are of very little monetary value. These stocks for example would be a chain of local pizza stores that would never make it into the big market of restaurants, such as Pizza Hut, but would do well in it’s local market.
Growth stocks are companies that have a high potential to achieve great success, but they can also be very risky investments because they not are well established. An example of this type of company would one that invents a product that may make a big impact on the market (similar to when air bags were invented those stocks probably rose drastically). These stocks would be the intermediate level in the purchasing of stocks.
The highest level of stock purchasing is buying blue chip stocks. These stocks are of companies that are very well established and have almost no chance of its’ stocks dropping drastically. Some of these stocks would be of companies such as McDonald’s Corp., General Motors Corp., Coca-Cola Co., etc. Although blue chip stocks are the best stocks to invest in, they can also be very expensive limiting you to only buy a few of that companies shares.
Often when the price of a stock plateaus, the company decides to “split” its stock. When this occurs, you receive more stock for the money you have already invested. But when your company’s stock splits “two-for-one,” you get twice the amount of stock but the value of that stock depreciates by 50%. Reverse splitting means that the stock doubles in value although you only get to keep half the stocks you had before. Any way the stock may split, you will not lose your money.
In any company’s stock there are two different types of stocks you can buy: Common Stock and Preferred Stock.
Common stock in a company shows you that you own a fraction (called a share) of a company. Since common stock has a high potential for gain, common stock holders are the last persons to receive their dividends after those who own preferred stock.
Preferred stock is sold to the public after all the common stock is sold. Companies who are going out of business have to pay out their preferred stock owners first because they have paid a higher premium for that same stock. Preferred stock owners only receive a fixed dividend payment, making it the only drawback for people to purchase this type of stock.
After you have decided what type of stock to purchase, you must find a broker. This person will only take orders to buy and sell stock tickets. Every brokerage firm has two types of brokers. Stockbrokers help by giving advice on investing and by doing research on stocks. Discount brokers are the “middle man” of buying and selling stocks and do not research or give advice. After you find a broker all that you have to do is give him, or her, a call when wanting to buy or sell your stock.

Games people play by Eric Berne

Games People Play: The Psychology of Human Relationships is a 1964 bestselling book by psychiatrist Eric Berne. Since its publication it has sold more than five million copies.[1] The book describes both functional and dysfunctional social interactions. In the first half of the book, Berne introduces Transactional Analysis as a way of interpreting social interactions. He describes three roles or ego states known as the Child, the Parent, and the Adult and postulates that many negative behaviors can be traced to switching or confusion of these roles. He discusses procedures, rituals, and pastimes in social behavior, in light of this method of analysis. For example, a boss who talks to his staff as a controlling parent will often engender self-abased obedience, tantrums, or other childlike responses from his employees.

    The tough guide to fantansyland

The Tough Guide To Fantasyland (1996) is a book by Diana Wynne Jones that humorously examines the common tropes of a broad swathe of fantasy fiction. It was nominated for both a Hugo award and a World Fantasy Award.

The book takes the unusual angle of presenting itself as a tourist guidebook. It claims that the fantasy worlds depicted in many fantasy novels, games and films are in fact part of a single land. In an extended metaphor, the readers (or viewers or players) are tourists; authors are tour guides, and their stories are sight-seeing tours or package holidays to this Fantasyland. In this context, it catalogues many of the common places, peoples, artifacts, situations, characters and events likely to be found on such a journey Рin other words, the archetypes and clich̩s found in fantasy fiction.

The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass (1997)

Wizard and Glass is the fourth book in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. This book is subtitled "REGARD." The novel was nominated for a Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 1998.

The novel begins where The Waste Lands ended. After Jake, Eddie, Susannah and Roland fruitlessly riddle Blaine the Mono for several hours, Eddie defeats the mad computer by telling childish jokes. Blaine is unable to handle Eddie's "illogical" riddles, and short-circuits.

The four gunslingers and Oy the billy-bumbler disembark at the Topeka railway station, which to their surprise is located in the Topeka, Kansas, of the 1980s. The city is deserted, as this version of the world has been depopulated by the influenza of King's novel The Stand. Links between these books also include the following reference to The Walkin' Dude from The Stand on page 95, "Someone had spray-painted over both signs marking the ramp's ascending curve. On the one reading St. Louis 215, someone had slashed watch out for the walking dude."(King, 2003, pg 95) among others. The world also has some other minor differences with the one (or more) known to Eddie, Jake and Susannah, for instance, the Kansas City baseball team is the Monarchs (as opposed to the Royals), and Nozz-A-La is a popular soft drink.

The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands (1991)

The Waste Lands is the third book of the The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. The original limited edition hardcover featuring full-color illustrations by Ned Dameron was published in 1991 by Grant.

The story begins five weeks after the end of The Drawing of the Three. Roland, Susannah, and Eddie have moved east from the shore of the Western Sea, and into the woods of Out-World. After an encounter with a gigantic cyborg bear named Shardik, they discover one of the six mystical Beams that hold the world together. The three gunslingers follow the Path of the Beam inland to Mid-World.

Roland now reveals to his ka-tet that his mind has become divided by the paradox of having let Jake Chambers die under the mountain after finding him at the Way Station in the desert, and yet also, after having subsequently prevented Jake's earlier death in New York City, having an alternate memory of traveling through the desert and mountains alone.

The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three (1987)

The Drawing of the Three is the second book in The Dark Tower series of novels written by Stephen King and published by Grant in 1987. The series was inspired by Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came by Robert Browning. The story is a continuation of The Gunslinger and follows Roland of Gilead and his quest towards the Dark Tower.
The book begins less than seven hours after the end of The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger after The Man in Black has described The Gunslinger's fate using tarot cards. Roland wakes up on a beach, where he is suddenly attacked by a strange, lobster-like creature, which he dubs a "lobstrosity." He kills the creature but not before losing the index and middle finger of his right hand, and most of his right big toe; his untreated wounds soon become infected. Feverish and losing strength, Roland continues to trek north along the beach, where he eventually encounters three doors. Each door opens onto New York City at different periods in time (1987, 1964 and 1977, respectively) and, as Roland passes through these doors, he brings back the companions who will join him on his quest to the Dark Tower.

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger (1982)

The Gunslinger is a novel by American author Stephen King, and is the first volume in the Dark Tower series, which King considers to be his magnum opus.It was first published in 1982. The story centers upon Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger who has been chasing after his adversary, "the man in black", for many years. The novel follows Roland's trek through a vast desert and beyond in search of the man in black. Roland meets several people along his journey, including a boy named Jake Chambers who travels with him part of the way.
The main story takes place in a world that is somewhat similar to the Old West but exists in an alternate time frame or parallel universe to ours. Roland exists in a place where "the world has moved on." This world has a few things in common with our own, however, including memories of the song "Hey Jude" and the child's rhyme that begins "Beans, Beans". Vestiges of forgotten or skewed versions of real-world technology also appear, such as a reference to a gas pump that is worshipped as a god named "Amoco", and an abandoned way station with a water pump which is powered by an "atomic slug".

Principles of spread-spectrum communication systems - Don J. Torrieri

    Springer, 2005 - Technology & Engineering - 444 pages
Originally adopted in military networks as a means of ensuring secure communication when confronted with the threats of jamming and interception, spread-spectrum systems are now the core of commercial applications such as mobile cellular and satellite communication. This book provides a concise but lucid explanation and derivation of the fundamentals of spread-spectrum communication systems. The level of presentation is suitable for graduate students with a prior graduate-level course in digital communication and for practicing engineers with a solid background in the theory of digital communication. As the title indicates, the author focuses on principles rather than specific current or planned systems. Although the exposition emphasizes theoretical principles, the choice of specific topics is tempered by their practical significance and interest to both researchers and system designers. Throughout the book, learning is facilitated by many new or streamlined derivations of the classical theory. Problems at the end of each chapter are intended to assist readers in consolidating their knowledge and to provide practice in analytical techniques. Principles of Spread-Spectrum Communication Systems is largely self-contained mathematically because of the four appendices, which give detailed derivations of mathematical results used in the main text.

The web application hacker's handbook: discovering and exploiting security flaws - Dafydd Stuttard, Marcus Pinto

    Wiley Pub., 2007 - Computers - 736 pages
This book is a practical guide to discovering and exploiting security flaws in web applications. The authors explain each category of vulnerability using real-world examples, screen shots and code extracts. The book is extremely practical in focus, and describes in detail the steps involved in detecting and exploiting each kind of security weakness found within a variety of applications such as online banking, e-commerce and other web applications.
The topics covered include bypassing login mechanisms, injecting code, exploiting logic flaws and compromising other users. Because every web application is different, attacking them entails bringing to bear various general principles, techniques and experience in an imaginative way. The most successful hackers go beyond this, and find ways to automate their bespoke attacks. This handbook describes a proven methodology that combines the virtues of human intelligence and computerized brute force, often with devastating results.
The authors are professional penetration testers who have been involved in web application security for nearly a decade. They have presented training courses at the Black Hat security conferences throughout the world. Under the alias "PortSwigger", Dafydd developed the popular Burp Suite of web application hack tools.

Embedded Systems: Desktop Integration - Oliver H. Bailey (Wordware Publishing, Inc.)

Oliver Bailey has taken a unique approach in this book by using a
real product design process, complete with imaginative requests
from a marketing department and managers. Early in the book, I
identified with many circumstances that regularly occur in our
office when we’re considering a new product. It reminded me
that there’s so much more to product design than a schematic,
some microcontroller code, and a printed circuit board. It’s a
reminder that designing the prototype is 90 percent of the fun
and 10 percent of the work, and that you can swap these two
numbers to bring a product to market. With his business-minded
approach, Oliver challenges us to put thought into the software
integration, operating systems, hardware design, and marketing
department requests up front. The result is that the prototype
will be more complete, and completing the project will involve
less feature creep. This is what it will take, because embedded
developers are always looking at desktop integration
    alternatives.
Many books dealing with microcontrollers are very firmware
(microcontroller code) and hardware (circuit design) oriented.
They provide code examples, a schematic, and a description of
how the design should work. They rarely cover the hardware
connection solutions (USB, serial, Ethernet), not to mention the
variety of operating systems and drivers for the hardware.
Knowing more about microcontrollers than operating systems, I
spent all of my time reviewing the sections on designing
cross-platform user applications and their programming environments.
From reading microcontroller discussion forums it is clear
that most users need support with the subject. Now they have it
in one place. These considerations are far more important to
embedded developers than they used to be.
